Day 16 - Jim Splits

Emerald rivers, mirror-like lakes, honey stalls and signs for Tito’s bunker guided us through the heart of Bosnia and into Herzegovina.
We were back in the land of fervent tourism. The UNESCO World Heritage old town of Mostar was buzzing with throngs of visitors; its cobbles well worn to perilously shiny. But there are many reason why people flock here. It’s beautiful, with real old-world charm evident among its souvenir stalls.
Oh, and the Stari Most, the world-famous arched bridge. It’s unquestionably beautiful whichever way you look at it - either from the banks or while watching the small boats speed through the crystal-clear water.
After a feed and an ice cream, we were back on the road, ready to return to the EU.
We got searched at the border, with the guard questioning Ian’s collection of European currencies, inhalers and Romanian football shirt. As the guard rooted through Jim’s delicates, he said: “I’m glad you’re wearing gloves, they’re my dirty pants.” We were let go shortly after.
As parting shots go, it was a memorable one from Jim. We dropped him off at Split airport ready for his flight back home.
Did it work? Well…
Staying in Trogir, the final three delved into the historic old town, set on an island. This was another chance of scene as, like many towns on the Dalmatian coast, it looks more like medieval Venice.
We’ve also gone Balkan and now just walk across roads, assuming vehicles will stop. At some point, we’ll have to readjust.
